Easy to follow, wide variety of bonsai, many great ideas September 18, 1999 17 out of 17 found this review helpful
The book "BONSAI" by Harry Tomlinson is a very informative bonsai manual. It provides my illustrations and tips for different styles of bonsai with easy to follow text. I find that if I have a question I can grab the book and it's there! I looked at many books before I picked this one and have not had any regrets. This book deserves 6 stars.-Ryan Natschke Phoenix,AZ
Outstanding. Used as resource for Totalbonsai.com May 25, 1999 3 out of 4 found this review helpful
A very useful tree guide and very easy to read.It has been used as a reference in the searchable tree guide database. A must read for enthusiasts of all levels
A good book for beginners. February 16, 1999 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
This is a handy, easy to read source for beginners. The photos are great, but the descriptions on care is a bit scanty. Do I really need to know that "the red-brown pot subtly enhances the tree's changing colors over the seasons"? More helpful would be advice on what kinds of pots are best for what kind of plant. Some plants have longer root systems or are better for the cascading effect than others. The "how-to" section is good with step-by-step photos on repotting and grafting.
The ONLY book most bonsai hobbyists will ever need. December 28, 1998 Clear photographs and illustrations, concise descriptions and a comprehensive species guide make this the perfect book for the beginner or the experienced bonsaist. The RD version of Mr. Thomlinson's popular book has taken the bonsai bible and made it better. It is smaller and handier than the hardcover edition with no loss of information, either text or illustrations. Buy it! Enjoy it! Learn from it!
A definite buy November 24, 1998 I am interested in bonsai arrangements for very large trees, such as the redwoods. This was provided in the book. I would have liked to see more details in this book on the sequoia sempervirens but I have not been able to find this tree in other books on bonsai.
