Product Description
EyeTV 250 Plus is a hybrid TV Tuner for the Mac with a powerful hardware encoder for higher quality recordings and smaller sized video files. EyeTV 250 Plus receives both free over-the-air HDTV as well as analog TV, and offers a complete solution for moving your video collection from VHS tape to DVD-Video.
EyeTV 250 Plus is future-proof for the upcoming digital TV switch-over in 2009, and is ideal for those who want the flexibility of a digital and analog TV tuner together with a hardware encoder in one device. EyeTV 250 Plus delivers free over-the-air digital TV to your Mac in stunning 720p or 1080i HDTV (MPEG-2) and other digital television standards, as well as conventional analog TV via standard cable or antenna. EyeTV 250 Plus also comes with a break-out cable for composite video and S-Video, enabling you to connect a set-top box directly to your Mac. 4 out of 5 stars Great compact unit with excellent software   August 11, 2008

I bought this because el gato is Mac friendly and it seemed the perfect fit for my 24" AL iMac. The size is just right and the software now at v3 keeps getting better. Remote works well and is user friendly. Analog has been so-so because of Comcast and not the el gato tuner. Clear QAM is the real prize in this but you are at the mercy of the cable company which in my case is spotty. A better bet is to get a good indoor digital antenna which absolutely provides a top notch digital/HD signal for those times that your cable co. loses the QAM signal. I only wish el gato would make this with a cable card and then all of the encrypted non premium channels could be displayed. Since I have this on my desktop i don't want to have another cable box. The unit is pricy but then again el gato technical support is excellent and as I said earlier the software is top notch. The first unit I bought was defective and needed replacing and el gato staff were very helpful.

5 out of 5 stars Great product to complement your iMac   July 15, 2008

Bought the Elgato EyeTV 250 Plus from J&R Music. Great service and great product. The design is sleek and looks great on your desk especially next to my iMac. The interface and picture quality is spectacular. I highly recommend this to anyone that wants to add a HDTV to your existing computer.

2 out of 5 stars Arg! I wish I had more details before I bought.   June 23, 2008

I want to recommend this I really do but I can't. The software is a pain to install. It gets really hot. I still can't seem to get more then a few minutes out of it before it cuts off and the Mac doesn't recognize it anymore. No I have not contacted tech support yet but why should I, it should be able to work out of the box. The company has other product I am sure are great but this one has let me down. I am still working with it but I don't feel confident about it.

1 out of 5 stars Canadians beware - no EPG   May 14, 2008

Although this may be a perfectly good product, Canadians should beware that there is no working electronic program guide for Canada integrated with any Elegato TV product. There are guides for the US, UK, Australia and even smaller countries, but not Canada. When I emailed support about this flaw they did not directly answer when a guide would be available, so I assume there are no plans to provide a guide for Canadians.

I feel ripped off, and warn Canadians not to buy this product.

5 out of 5 stars More Flexible than TiVO   April 5, 2008

I use this with a MacPro and Digital Cable. It performs as advertised, and the ability to record TV and automatically export to iPhone and Apple TV is worth the price alone. Use in conjunction with Titan TV remote scheduling, and you have in fact replicated Gen 3 TiVO, plus you can watch entire TV series on the iPhone or Apple TV without having to pay for the DVDs.
