Verg good monitor for the money with 720p resolution! October 12, 2008 2 out of 3 found this review helpful
This monitor is 95% identical to the its predecessor, the HD2200 (http://www.amazon.com/Gateway-HD2200-Widescreen-LCD-Monitor/dp/B000XIDECU). If you want a detailed description of how this TN panel performs in color palettes, grayscale, backlight bleed etc. refer to the link and other sites for feedback because the representative at Gateway told me this and the HD2200 use the same exact panel (apparently the 2000:1 contrast ratio to the hd200's 1000:1 is a gimmick, because of "Ultra Contrast" - similar to dynamic contrast versus native). The biggest difference between this monitor and the aforementioned is the lack of a component input and DCDi Faroudja processing. I bought this at Best Buy for $180 at a deal (normal BB rp is $220) and am hesitant to return it since there are zero dead pixels or any related faults.
I really wanted the component input to hook up my PS2 and older generation equipment. Unfortunately, the HD2200, even though it is now discontinued, is for some reason $100 more expensive today than this newer model. The HD2200 was released in October of 2007 I believe at $350 while this monitor was released in September 2008 at $330 (but every established internet merchant is selling it for ~$250).
I think I will return this anyway.. component is much too important a feature for me; but if not for you definitely go with this! If you try hard, you can get this around $220 easily and at that price it's a great deal.
