| Editorial Reviews:
Product Description The Complete Book of Plant Propagation reveals how simple and satisfying propagating your own plants can be. A general introduction explains when and why propagation is necessary, then twelve horticultural experts discuss different groups of plants individually, from alpines, herbaceous perennials and ferns to conifers and heathers, herbs, trees and shrubs, and houseplants. Throughout the book individual plants are the main focus, with all appropriate propagation methods discussed in detail and clarified by sequences of straightforward, step-by-step drawings. Tips and practical advice are accompanied by inspirational ideas for using your new-found knowledge. Have you considered espaliered rosemary, for example, or propagating shrubs for a garden of ornamental topiary? At the end of each chapter there is an all-inclusive A-Z list of plants for quick and easy reference. Easy-to-read symbols tell you essential information at a glance: how long seed will take to germinate and how quickly the plant reaches maturity. The plants are assessed individually, with advice on the best propagation methods to use and extra tips to ensure success.

Way above average January 5, 2007 3 out of 4 found this review helpful
This book is full of well explained information and detail on plant propagation and is a great reference for almost any person interested in this topic. The exception might be professional plant researchers.
Disappointing for advanced gardener, good for beginner February 24, 2001 32 out of 32 found this review helpful
Plant chapters included in this book are: annuals and biennials; herbaceous perennials; ferns; bulbs, corms and tubers; alpines and rock garden plants; conifers and heathers; shrubs, trees, and climbers; houseplants, water plants, herbs, fruit, and vegetables. Each chapter consists of two parts, the first is an illustrated guide of propogation techniques; the second part is a "directory" or a mini encyclopedia of plants. This book is mostly plant directory rather than propogation techniques. For example, in the longest chapter, Shrubs, Trees and Climbers, there are 10 pages of propogation techniques and 14 pages of directory. The book's strong points are in this chapter also, it has a good section on tree grafting. However, my biggest complaint about this book is that it does not mention roses at all. Nor does it mention carnivorous plants or other exotics. On the plus side, the photographs and illustrations are excellent. If you are interested in growing a specific plant type, like begonias or cacti, you would be better off with a plant-specific book, this book is too general.
