Yes, this is the best thing I every did for my family, in my life! This book covers the fundamentals of holistic health / Ayurveda. This book helped me to understand the baics of our human body, why we get disease. It gave a positive perspective about health/life. So, Ayurveda not just treating the disease 'outside'. It's holistic healing with no side-effects (unlike alopathy).
Be aware that this book is mainly an introduction book. If you looking for a highly practical Ayurveda book, following book by the same author is recommended:
The Complete Book of Ayurvedic Home Remedies by Vasant Lad [If you want only one book,this is it! Every home who wants to be happy and naturally healthy should have this and follow it! ]
I also liked the following 2 books:
1) The Ayurveda Encyclopedia: Natural Secrets to Healing, Prevention, & Longevity
by Swami Sadashiva Tirtha (I liked the spiritual aspect / history of ayurveda)

Wonderfully done. As a student of Ayurveda this audio of 6 cds by Dr. Vasant Lad is very informative and easy to understand. Brilliant. His way of teaching makes you feel as if you were right there with him. I have listened to each cd over and over. I highly recommend it.

This book is the definitive reference book on Ayurveda. You will refer to it, time and time again.
 Great Introduction to Ayurveda July 27, 2006
This book was a clear yet comprehensive introduction to a very complex system of medicine with which I had had no previous experience. It was very helpful.
