3 out of 5 stars Ah, memories....   October 23, 2008
Rosemond Hill was my first 'Let's Ride' game, and has always been one of my favorites even after it's been replaced with bigger and better games from the same series. It's hardly without it's flaws of course, but really I kind of wish the newer Let's Ride games would take a page from it and implement a few of it's ideas.

Favorite Parts:

-Walking/riding around the farm.
It's really a novelty for me to be honest, however this is the one feature I really miss.. I liked being able to walk my horse to the pasture, I liked riding my horse up to the NPC's to talk to them, I just like how real that aspect of the game felt. (Though I don't like how slow your character moves, but that's easily fixed if you're on a horse.)

-Being able to CHOOSE which horse you get after beating a competition. This is the one feature I miss the most.. You have no idea how much it annoyed me when I played newer LR games and finding that I had little to no say in what horses I received. Maybe Rosemond Hill spoiled me.. But it was really exciting being presented with a list of 5+ horses, or less depending upon how you placed, after beating a competition and being able to choose the one you want.

-All the farm chores.
Now don't get me wrong. I hated doing the same chores over and over again just as much as the next person, especially cleaning out the stalls, and it also didn't help that your character was slower than molasses when doing them.. Still, it felt a lot more authentic than some of the newer games where everything is assembled for you in one convenient screen.

-The graphics.
Now, in this day and age most people will think these graphics are terrible.. And frankly they are. However, for the time period it was made in the graphics are actually pretty impressive. Especially the horse models. Which can look a little off in some positions, but are still more anatomically correct than the models used in some other games. (Though the LR games made in the past three years tend to have better ones.)

Least Favorite Parts:
-The glitches..
The game's ultimate short coming is that it's so badly glitched that it can at times be unplayable. You REALLY have to be careful about what you do and how you use your tools, as almost anything that can go wrong probably will. (The stable is the main offender, the rest of the game is pretty non-glitched all things considered.) Here are some things to look out for....

1. Be careful when moving the wheelbarrow out of it's designated spot. I was retrieving it yesterday after replaying the game and I somehow got stuck in between the wall that connects that area with an adjoining stall.. (You can get yourself out of this mess by hitting 'esc', then save your game, and reload it. If you do there is a chance you will be placed outside the wall. In which case you should immediately drop the wheelbarrow and move away. Once clear try getting it again, only this time BACK UP only when getting it out.)

2. Another wheelbarrow issue.. Be prepared to get stuck between the door to the waste area and the stable when you are coming in from the outside carrying the wheelbarrow. For some reason the door won't immediately let you come in from the outside if you have that tool in your hands. Just keep on walking into the open door way, try to be center, and when the door swings back it should knock you inside. If not, keep on trying until it does.

3. DO NOT RIDE JOHN'S HORSE.
One of my first mistakes playing this game was trying to tack up John's horse in it's stall to ride it.. I don't know if it's my game that's the problem or what, but doing so in my case is a recipe for disaster. The character keeps on trying to get up into the saddle, in the stall no less, and causes all kinds of collision errors..
Note: I haven't tried tacking it up in the pasture as far as I recall so it might be a way around the glitch.
Note2: Melissa's horse Comet does not have the same issues and can be ridden though.
There are a several smaller glitches, but otherwise the game is fine. (Just beware of riding near trees, you never know if you'll be stopped suddenly because the game thought you collided with it.)

-The saving system.
You know how most LR games allow you to save if you click on a diary of some kind? Yeah, not this one. You have to click 'ESC' and THEN 'Save Game' in order to record your progress. The issue is that you just never know when hitting 'ESC' will allow you to save the game or not. In the case of the latter you have to start back from a previous save to continue. The whole thing seems to work if your character is on her own, but the times when I was unable to save after hitting 'ESC' were the times I was riding a horse.. So be careful of that.

-The unfinished look to some aspects.
Not really a big deal, but what's up with the big house you can't get into or that one shed with two doors that refuse to open? Not to mention that one large raised area to the side of the stable.. Was there supposed to be an arena there? These are just little nitpicks though. xD

All in all, it's a good game. There are better LR titles out currently, but this one still holds a lot of charm in it's own right.

Also.. This game DOES work on XP systems. I replayed my own copy just yesterday and it was working perfectly on my XP run system. I don't know why it is working for some people and not others, then again many older games can have this very same problem.

4 out of 5 stars Great game   July 25, 2007
I love this game - it's the most realistic horse game I've ever played. I know it has some flaws, but they're not even that bad. Trust me. I'm the essence of getting annoyed at games for flaws, and this is really not that bad. I love it!

5 out of 5 stars BEST game EVER!!!   May 8, 2007
This is the greatest horse game in the world! I LOVE riding around, that is soooo cool! Great grapics! I highly recomend this game!!!

5 out of 5 stars GREAT   April 22, 2007
I think this game is fantastic, the plot is really good, which is to find out about the mystery of the stables and discover the truth! The riding is great and you get chances to win new horses. After you have finished in a competion provided you do well enough you move to the next level and each level has its on challenge - not impossible but challenging in a good way. I hate games that are completed in a week. It is very worth the money since you get a lot of game play out of it. The graphics are quite good and the horses are all interesting, it depends how well you do to get a good or not so good horse and there is usually around 5 to choose from. Sometimes you can get stuck but there are good websites with helpful walkthroughs incase.

THIS GAME IS WELL WORTH THE MONEY I REALLY RECCOMEND IT! i have had it soo many years but still i love playing it.
if you are looking for a great horsey game with a great adventure yet some competitions along the way you'v found it!!!!

5 out of 5 stars TOO GOOD FOR WORDS   February 26, 2007
1 out of 1 found this review helpful

This game is AWSOME. Although it took me a while to figure out how to unlock the 4th competetition i kept going because i just loved it!!!! Unfortunately my dog ate the disc so i have to wait for my birthday to get a new one. My friend has it and she finds it hard to do the apple part but i got her past and now she cant get off it!!!!!!!!! I just cant explain how good this game is as it is truely too good for words but i can explain what happens.

Basically at the beginning you start out with a horse called Alpha. He is extremely slow at the beginning but you train him and he becomes faster.
The first competition is very easy to unlock however not as easy to win. I ALWAYS come second but sometimes im even lucky enough to come first. If i win this competition i win the other aswell.

The second part if you win you get the choice of more horses, you get the choice of 6 horses but normally you get the choice of 4. You can only pick ONE of the horses and more often than not it is very hard to choose. Ok so it isnt the most realistic game but who cares? If you love the game then it doesnt matter!!!

I have just one way to conculed this review..................

BUY IT BUY IT BUY IT BUY IT BUY IT!!!!!!!

For all horse lovers, and dont let your dog get hold of the disc!!!!!!!!!!!!
