Buy this now! October 11, 2006 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
Don't let the price these go for deter you. I've had this on my wish list for years thinking I didn't want to pay seventy bucks for a video. Finally someone offered it for thirty bucks and I picked it up. I laughed so hard and smiled so much that at the end of the hour and a half my face hurt. If I'd realized it was so good I would have willingly shelled out a hundred bucks for it three years ago.
Don't wait!

A dazzling display of Danny Kaye's inimitable wit and style! I laughed so hard, I could barely breathe! Ladies, don't wear mascara when you watch this film! And, if you're a baby-boomer, please be sure to empty your bladder before sitting down to watch this! Timeless, hilarious, enthralling! Enjoy!

A wonderful evening with the Philharmonic August 18, 2003 4 out of 4 found this review helpful
You're not supposed to laugh at a classical music concert. That's an unspoken rule. But when Danny Kaye came to Avery Fisher Hall in 1981 as a guest conductor with the New York Philharmonic, you just couldn't do anything else.As Kaye himself said during the performance, he can't read a note of music. But that didn't prevent him from appreciating it, and from contributing heavily to various orchestras across the country to keep classical music alive in this modern-day world. As a sort of tribute to his efforts, and to help raise money for the New York Philharmonic, Kaye was invited to be guest conductor for one evening at Avery Fisher Hall. It was a night that will live forever. The pieces themselves were played completely straight, but the moments in between were absolutely hilarious - Kaye walking to the podium at the start of the concert with what looked like 100 batons in his hand; the concertmaster "goofing" up a piece and the "argument" that followed; Kaye conducting Rimsky-Korsakov's "Flight of the Bumblebee" with a flyswatter. There are too many other moments to relate here, but to anyone who loves Danny Kaye this is a worthy addition to your library.
