Installation Instructions Totally Inadequate December 14, 2008 I bought this intending to install myself. The first thing you find in the installation instructions is that the system must be installed by a professional installer. The installation instructions do not tell you anything beyond hook one wire to a 12V fused constant power and another to key switched power. You are left to guess where the rest of the dozen or so other wires would connect to. Nowhere in the product description did I find that it required professional installation. I am an engineer and would have no problem following installation instructions if they had been provided. I will be returning this. If I wanted to go thru the hassle of taking it in for professional installation I would have bought it thru a local dealer.
712T Valet November 19, 2008 This is a great product with lots of features at a resonable price. The distance the remote will function is much farther than my other car with factory entry system. Highly recommended for cars with power locks but no remote entry. Manual could be improved by adding more details in the installation section.
712t Keyless entry system review November 28, 2007 3 out of 3 found this review helpful
works fine. I was NOT able to install the unit myself. I paid Curcuit City $50 to install the unit. Turned out that the $50 was only for the keyless entry installation. The other options were tucked away neatly within my dash. Otherwise, it works great. The distance for the remote to work is short, but I am ok with that. This unit most definately needs to be professionally installed.
Inexpensive, Lots of options, Works well September 6, 2007 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
Added this to 10-yr-old BMW convertible that had no Keyless Entry, but was pre-wired for it. Prewiring made it pretty easy to install, all the connections were in one spot. Still, the instruction manual was a little difficult to decipher for a cookbook mechanic like me. However, after "decryption", the system worked 1st time and every time. EDIT: Range of the remote is quite good - Other reviewer had it "professionally installed", and I'll bet that they just rolled the antenna wire up - instead of extending it. That would give you poor range. I've found range wth stock antenna-wire is 50-60 feet. If you need more range, just add another few feet to the antenna wire; it's just a wire, nothing more.
This kit is almost a universal one since there are a LOT of programmable options, which -if you add a couple of 12v Relays and a siren- can turn it into an alarm, get it to roll your power windows and/or close sunroof, do the remote starter thing, etc., etc. I have it set-up so one of the remote buttons closes the convertible top and then rolls up the windows!
Excellent buy for the $.
Good price, works great, nice addition to my wife's car November 10, 2006 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
My wife has a 2001 honda civic, and it had everything but keyless entry and remote trunk pop. I did not want remote start, so this worked great for me. The model I got was the valet 712T. I had this installed professionally for a good price, and it works fantastic. It features a panic alarm, lock/unlock, and I got the optional servo to pop the trunk using the auxillary input button. Before my wife had lever pop trunk, now she can do it while her hands are full after shopping. I think you will like this as much as she does.
